Jonathan Laurence is Professor of Political Science at Boston College and an affiliate of the Center for European Studies at Harvard University, where he received his Ph.D. in 2006.

Since 2018, he is Vice President of Reset Dialogues US, a 501(c)3 that convenes International seminars and publishes research on democracy and religious and cultural pluralism. From 2003-2018, he was Nonresident Senior Fellow in Foreign Policy studies at the Brookings Institution.

Laurence is author of Coping with Defeat: Sunni Islam, Roman Catholicism and the Modern State (Princeton, forthcoming), The Emancipation of Europe’s Muslims (Princeton, 2012) and Integrating Islam (with Justin Vaïsse, Brookings, 2006).

His essays, articles and commentary on international affairs appear in US and European periodicals and news media, and he gives occasional lectures in international academic and policy settings.
